Fumigation Vessel with Suspended Grid

This brass bowl is built around a simple principle: lit charcoal needs air on all sides to burn uniformly. The removable metal grid suspends the charcoal away from the bottom of the bowl, allowing air circulation and constant burning, without premature extinguishing.

The bowl is not just a container. It is a thermal insulation system - between the incandescent charcoal and the surface on which the bowl rests, there is space, a grid, and a metal wall. Heat is distributed, not concentrated. The bowl heats up, but does not instantly become untouchable.

The grid lifts, cleans, and repositions. Ash falls to the bottom of the bowl, away from the charcoal. Fumigation continues without interruption.

Engraved Brass - Materiality Without Gratuitous Ornament

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, corrosion-resistant, thermally stable, with moderate thermal conductivity - it does not heat up as quickly as pure copper, but it also does not remain cold like ceramic.

The surface of the bowl bears traditional engravings - geometric lines, stylized floral motifs. They are not applied for decoration. They are the trace of a manual working technique, a sign of artisanal, not industrial, manufacturing.

Brass patinates over time. The color becomes darker, warmer. This is not degradation - it is material maturation.

Dual Use - Charcoal or Sand

Primary use: charcoal fumigation

The removable metal grid supports vegetable charcoal away from the bottom of the bowl. Air circulates freely. The charcoal burns completely, uniformly. Frankincense or the botanical blend is placed directly on the charcoal and heats up gradually, without direct contact with the metal.

Secondary use: incense stick holder in sand

If you remove the grid and fill the bowl with fine sand (2-3 cm deep), it becomes a stable holder for incense sticks or for Palo Santo matches. The sand absorbs the heat of the ash, anchors the stick vertically, and catches falling ash.

It is an object adapted to the needs of the moment, not fixed in a single function.

Usage Ritual

For charcoal fumigation:

  1. Place the metal grid inside the bowl.
  2. Light the charcoalwith the tongs.
  3. Place the lit charcoal on the grid. Allow it to stabilize (20-30 seconds).
  4. Add incenseor botanical blenddirectly onto the charcoal.
  5. Place the bowl on a heat-resistant surface- ceramic plate, stone slab, metal stand.

For incense sticks:

  1. Remove the metal grid.
  2. Fill the bowl with fine sand (2-3 cm).
  3. Insert the incense stickvertically into the sand.
  4. Light the tip of the stick, let the flame burn for 2-3 seconds, then gently blow it out.
Warnings and precautions

- The bowl heats up during use.Do not touch the bowl with bare hands while the charcoal is burning.
- Place the bowl on a fireproof surface- not directly on wood, plastic, or textiles.
- Do not leave burning fumigation unattended.
- After use, allow the bowl to cool completely (minimum 30-60 minutes) before handling.
- Clean the metal grate periodically to remove ash and resin residues.
- Store the bowl in a dry place. Natural patina is normal and does not affect functionality.
- Keep out of reach of children.
