Product Description

Every fumigation bowl needs a layer of sand between the bowl and the charcoal. Not for aesthetics. For function.

Quartz sand absorbs and distributes heat evenly, protecting the bowl from repeated thermal shocks that, over time, lead to cracks and damage. It is a simple yet essential element – the foundation upon which the entire fumigation ritual is built.

The quartz sand has a medium granulation (0.4–1.4 mm): fine enough to create a stable bed, yet coarse enough to allow air circulation under the charcoal. Processed for consistent particle size, without impurities.

It doesn't burn. It doesn't emit smoke. It doesn't affect the aroma of resins or botanical mixtures. It just does what it's supposed to do – and does it well.

The quantity is sufficient for multiple uses. A 1-2 cm layer in the bowl should be replaced periodically when the sand accumulates charcoal residue. The gesture matters more than the accumulation.

Usage Ritual
  1. Cover the base of the censer with an even layer of sand, approximately 1-2 cm thick.
  2. Place the self-igniting charcoal on top of the sand.
  3. Light the charcoal and wait until it is fully incandescent (even, gray surface).
  4. Add the frankincense resin or botanical blend on top of the charcoal.
  5. After use, allow everything to cool completely before cleaning.

Maintenance:The sand can be reused multiple times. When it accumulates visible charcoal or resin residues, replace it with fresh sand.

Origin

Quartz sand is a natural mineral - silicon dioxide (SiO₂) - formed by the prolonged erosion of quartz-bearing rocks. It is found in sedimentary deposits, where water and time have fragmented and polished quartz into fine grains. It is one of the most stable and inert materials in nature, resistant to high temperatures and lacking chemical reactivity - which makes it ideal for fumigation.
